Don and use a self-contained breathing apparatus

Condition

While dressed in a fire fighter’s outfit, without gloves on

Performance requirement

Behavior Standard
The student will: During assessment, the student shall, at a minimum:

Don a self-contained breathing apparatus

  1. Quickly don a SCBA using one or more of these methods:

    • Off the wall
    • Partner assist – demonstrate assisting and being assisted
    • Coat swing or,
    • Over the head

  2. achieve a proper fit of the unit with no loose or incorrect strap connections

  3. perform a user seal check

Use the self-contained breathing apparatus

demonstrate all of the following:

  • Normal breathing;
  • Changing the bottle; and
  • Emergency breathing.
