NVIC Method

STCW Competence	Knowledge, Understanding, and Proficiency
Use locating devices, including communication and signaling apparatus and pyrotechnics	SCRB-X4.1 Radio life-saving appliances carried in survival craft, including satellite EPIRBs and SARTs

Condition	Behavior	Standard
On board a ship or in an approved or accepted course, or in a laboratory, using an unpowered or disabled EPIRB,	the candidate demonstrates proper operation of the EPIRB. ALL	The candidate: Performs the operations needed to manually activate the EPIRB; and Describes the indicators that would be activated to indicate that the EPIRB is operating. NOTE: If the EPIRB has been placed into a test mode for this demonstration, the candidate will also describe the procedure to return the EPIRB back into service.
