RFPNW-X1.3 Change-over from automatic pilot to hand steering and vice versa

Condition Behavior Standard

On a vessel underway or on a simulator, at sea speed, when hearing the command to put steering into hand steering,

the candidate changes the steering mode from auto pilot to hand steering.


The candidate:

  1. Repeats the order;
  2. Switches the steering mode from autopilot to hand;
  3. Tests that the new steering mode is responding; and
  4. States: “She’s in hand steering.”

MMA Method

In order to satisfy NVIC 06-14 Task 1.3.A , MMA students must:

  • Successfully complete MMA Assessment OICNW-1-6A Steering gear test
